چکیده

This paper describes a direct solver algorithm for a sequence of finite element meshes that are hrefined towards one or several point singularities. For such a sequence of grids, the solver delivers linear computational cost O(N) in terms of CPU time and memory with respect to the number of unknowns N. The linear computational cost is achieved by utilizing the recursive structure provided by the sequence of h-adaptive grids with a special construction of the elimination tree that allows for reutilization of previously computed partial LU factorizations over the entire unrefined part of the computational mesh. The reutilization technique reduces the computational cost of the entire sequence of h-refined grids from O(N 2 ) down to O(N). Theoretical estimates are illustrated with numerical results on twoand three-dimensional model problems exhibiting one or several point singularities.

Graph Grammar Based Direct Solver for Hp-adaptive Finite Element Method with Point Singularities

In this paper we present a graph grammar based direct solver algorithm for hp-adaptive finite element method simulations with point singularities. The solver algorithm is obtained by representing computational mesh as a graph and prescribing the solver algorithm by graph grammar productions. Classical direct solvers deliver O(Np+N) computational cost for regular 2D grids, and O(Np+N) for regula...

Graph Grammar based Multi-thread Multi-frontal Direct Solver with Galois Scheduler

In this paper, we present a multi-frontal solver algorithm for the adaptive finite element method expressed by graph grammar productions. The graph grammar productions construct first the binary elimination tree, and then process frontal matrices stored in distributed manner in nodes of the elimination tree. The solver is specialized for a class of one, two and three dimensional h refined meshe...

In this paper we present a multi-criteria optimization of element partition trees and resulting orderings for multi-frontal solver algorithms executed for two dimensional h adaptive finite element method. In particular, the problem of optimal ordering of elimination of rows in the sparse matrices resulting from adaptive finite element method computations is reduced to the problem of finding of ...

Hybrid direct and iterative solvers for h refined grids with singularities

This paper describes a hybrid direct and iterative solver for two and three dimensional h adaptive grids with point singularities. The point singularities are eliminated by using a sequential linear computational cost solver O(N) on CPU [1]. The remaining Schur complements are submitted to incomplete LU preconditioned conjugated gradient (ILUPCG) iterative solver. The approach is compared to th...

Adaptive Unstructured Grid Generation Scheme for Solution of the Heat Equation

An adaptive unstructured grid generation scheme is introduced to use finite volume (FV) and finite element (FE) formulation to solve the heat equation with singular boundary conditions. Regular grids could not acheive accurate solution to this problem. The grid generation scheme uses an optimal time complexity frontal method for the automatic generation and delaunay triangulation of the grid po...
